Books and Writing
My lastest work evolved over a three year period, a period when our world changed dramatically. The darkness and worry born from the Worldwide Pandemic seemed pervasive and devastating. Yet there is another loving reality too, one that can uplift and give the courage to continue. Fortunately, during hardships we can also simultaneously choose to see the truth in the beauty and creation around us. People helping people. The kindness of loved ones and strangers. The innocence of children. The sweetness of animals. The beauty and awe of a sunrise or the evening stars. The opportunity to help someone. These are things we can shift our focus toward in any given moment. This shift can help us stay present to the total reality and can give us the energy to move forward.

We are called to be open and present. Sometimes it takes a second glance.
The Muse In Ordinary Living
In times of despair, it’s easy to believe “The Muse” has abandoned you. Especially over the past several years, dealing with the fallout and burnout of a worldwide pandemic, the artist’s soul can feel drained and crushed. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Poet and photographer Joan M. Scharff presents an uplifting collection of images and words sparked and shaped during some of the darkest of times. From “The Buzzards,” a thoughtful consideration on the important cycle of life and death that became her sister’s eulogy, to “Diversatree,” which explores why we need others by explaining the scientific connections of tree communities, to “The Egg With the Inner Flaw,” which reminds us that sometimes our imperfections on the inside are what make us the most special, each thoughtfully woven piece draws profound inspiration from the simple beauty of Nature.
A wonderful gift for an arts-driven person or a spiritual lift for any soul craving creative nourishment, The Muse in Everyday Living reminds us that inspiration does not always need to be obvious and grand to be Divine.

The Cricket Song,
Sounds of a Waking Poet
In The Cricket Song, Sounds of a Waking Poet, Joan Scharff shares her love of nature and a portion of her own journey of self-discovery and healing. Her poems speak directly to the heart of the reader, inviting them to face their fears, follow their dreams, and find their unique voice. By sharing her journey, Joan encourages others to bring forth their own gifts and talents. Scharff’s words, cathartic and nature inspired, include strong messages of empowerment, forgiveness, gratitude, and love. With her camera lens and heartfelt words, she weaves together a first collection of poems intended to reconnect, inspire, and uplift anyone who has faced adversity. Joan’s poetry seems to demonstrate that waking to, and walking through these experiences and struggles, brings opportunity for greater confidence, awareness, and wisdom. Her words offer messages of courage and hope to all who aspire to heal, grow, and change.
